The knowledge that indigenous women are going missing and being murdered at such a disproportionate rate shocks and disturbs me. This issue is very important to me and I want the chance to make a difference. I have thought about how I can help and show my support,  so I am organizing  a fundraiser to help the families of missing and murdered indigenous women.   

I plan to have a “Lilith Fair” style concert featuring local female musicians. As you know,  Sarah McLachlan's Lilith Fair was created to raise awareness of the many issues women in the music industry were facing. The idea of women standing together for a cause is inspirational and empowering. Lilith Fair not only provided financial support to female musicians but also sparked a conversation about the challenges women in the music industry were facing at the time. This is why I feel this type of fundraiser is perfect to draw attention to the issue of missing and murdered indigenous women. Open conversation is the first step towards real change. 

The goal of this event is to bring awareness to the indigenous women who have gone missing or been murdered, to honour their spirits in a celebration of song, and to raise money to support the families of missing and murdered indigenous women.
